💡 How to pick a CPU cooler
What to look for:
  • TDP rating must exceed your CPU's TDP
  • Socket compatibility (AM5, LGA1851, etc.)
  • Fits within your case's cooler height limit
💰 Air coolers are reliable and quiet. AIO liquid coolers handle high-TDP CPUs best

★★★★★Easy AM5 installation and total RAM clearance; top tier air cooler
This is a hefty, high-quality cooler, which you can sense right when you take it out of the box. The cooler has six heat pipes and a massive fin stack that is very effective at dissipating heat. There are two fans, one in the front and one embedded in the middle of the fin stack, where it remains hidden. The cooler easily handled my Ryzen 9 9900X without any issues, keeping temperatures well under the thermal throttle point at full load. In fact, it held the 9900X, which has a 162W maximum power draw (PPT), to under 80C during extended tests with the AIDA AVX stress workloads. As you can see in my pictures, the cooler comes with everything you need to install it, with the brackets, thermal paste, a screwdriver, and a handy plastic nut driver. There are also well-written instructions. Installation was simple on AM5; you just install the standoffs in the backplate (using the handy included nut driver), install the brackets on top, apply the thermal paste to the chip, and then place the cooler on top. There is a magnetic top plate that you simply pop off, and underneath you'll find two holes for the screwdriver. You extend the screwdriver through the top, tighten down the two fasteners into the brackets, and after snapping the top back on and plugging in the fans, you are done. The fans are connected to a Y-splitter, so you only need one fan header on your motherboard to power both fans. The cooler looks great once installed, and it performs very well, too. As mentioned, it holds temperatures down to 75C during heavy use. The fans are quiet under low and medium loads; you'll only notice them if you're listening for them. However, it does get a bit louder at full speed, but it shouldn't be distracting inside most PC cases. The cooler is rather large; it has essentially two cooling towers that are merged into one, but with a fan in the middle. However, it fits perfectly over the socket, leaving room for the GPU and the heat shield on the motherboard. Best of all, this cooler doesn't hang over the RAM slots, so RAM clearance won't be a worry at all. Overall, this is a great cooler for the price point; you'll be hard-pressed to find a better CPU cooler at this price point.

★★★★★Another wonderful cooler from ID Cooling!
ID Cooling has been around a while, mostly in China... but, they are well known there. They have finally made it to the States and I love it! They are offering some great products at very affordable prices. This A620 is looks great and does an amazing job of cooling. My CPU pours out 230w of power on a full Cinebench load, which is not realistic in most cases. It unfortunately could not hold the CPU back for too long, but it did do quite a good job before getting extremely loud. I really like how the install works for this, its a very clean looking cooler and would blend in well with a non-RGB stealth build. The top cover is magnetic and will grant you access to the second fan as well as nicely label holes for the mount. Also, I appreciate that little "GPU" sign and an arrow, telling you where the GPU should be once installed correctly. Once you are done, you just pop the magnetic cover back on and everything looks super clean! Installation is very easy and its classic ID Cooling, they use a simplified mounting system for both AMD and Intel and its very easy to get installed and up and running. One very nice touch was the little plastic nut driver? It is this small 3-4" plastic tube that can help you screw in and tighten the main bolts on the brackets. I love this because with many motherboards today they have large VRM heatsinks and sometimes getting your fingers in there is tough. This made installation so much faster and pain free. Overall I think ID Cooling has a winner on their hands. This may not have handled 10min with 230w going, but it will easily cool your CPU for everyday tasks and gaming especially.

★★★★Beautiful addition to ID's lineup. Works well. Almost perfect.
This cooler does a lot of things right. Aesthetically, it is very pleasing, especially in a system with black components where RGB isn't the focus. I love the magnetic outer panel. Just pull that straight off to access the holes to screw down the cooler. Unfortunately this panel is prone to finger prints, so wear gloves during assembly. Otherwise, the overall build quality is very good. ID-Cooling's design with this model makes installation noticeably easier. The fans and wiring are already connected and ready to go on this model. You dont need to clip any of those items into place, so you can save some time and this will absolutely help new builders. In fact, the only installation steps are installing the stand offs and brackets, adding thermal paste, and then dropping on the pre-assembled CPU Cooler carefully to align the top and bottom mounting screws to the brackets. I really like this cooler. It works well, keeps temps down, and runs quiet. That said, it has some flaws... The current price point at $50 brings some heavy competition. I would love to see this closer to the $40 price point. The top and bottom mounting screws took a little finesse to get them started. This model might benefit from some attention in that area for the design and/or manufacturing process. Finally, ID-Cooling continually misses the mark with their thermal paste. I personally like to see thermal paste with a slightly lower viscosity. As a builder, I like to stick to paste from Noctua and Cooler Master.
