💡 How to pick a CPU cooler
What to look for:
  • TDP rating must exceed your CPU's TDP
  • Socket compatibility (AM5, LGA1851, etc.)
  • Fits within your case's cooler height limit
💰 Air coolers are reliable and quiet. AIO liquid coolers handle high-TDP CPUs best

★★★★★Better than more expensive options
easy to install, comes with many cpu socket brackets. keeps ryzen 9700x nice and cool. also comes with thermal paste, which is what I used. No issues. Performance is great, as well as durability. overall pleased

★★★★★Seems to work great
I bought this because it replaces the Peerless Assassin 120 product line that, according to myriad tech reviews, performs almost as well as the undisputed king of CPU air coolers Noctua NH-D15—at a third of the cost. Best bang for the buck, they say. (Hardware Canucks published a few extensive benchmarks in their recent YouTube videos.) As for my experience, it keeps my AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU nice and cool. When gaming, it keeps the CPU under mid-60s (degrees Celsius), with occasional spikes to 70 degrees, but rarely so. It seems quiet, although I keep my computer tower under the desk. You can certainly hear the fans pushing air when at high RPMs, as is normal, but no annoying sound frequencies as far as I can tell. The only caveat is that, this being a new product, no one knows how the fans will perform in the long run. But it should be an upgrade over the Peerless Assassin 120 line that it’s replacing, which has fared quite well so far. If the fans fail after the warranty has expired, you can replace them with any standard 120 mm fans. (You can get decent fans like Arctic’s P line for $10 a piece if you’ll still be on a budget by then.) A plus is that it comes with a full syringe of thermal grease. I already had some, so didn’t use it. If the included grease is the hard-to-spread kind, use a hair dryer to soften it as needed.

★★★★★Inexpensive, great build quality, keep temps right where I was looking for them to be for my 6 core.
Bought this to upgrade my ID-55 low profile cooler with 25mm fan, after my first choice ID Cooling A620 ARGB was no longer available. The ID-55 which worked pretty well on my I5-10600K but would reach 81c on Shadow of the Tomb Raider and would idle around 50c still well with in the thermal limits but too hot for me and the fan was noisier with just 5 heat pipes. I liked the Phantom Spirit Evo but wanted more ARGB lighting on my cooling tower so I bought this unit and swapped out the fans to the Thermalright TL-M12-S ARGB Fans, saved enough going this way I could also replace the rear 120mm fan with the same fans I was using on this cooler tower. I ran the same tests with the new tower cooler combination and now my I5-10600K idles at 39c but more importantly it only got to a max of 63c on Shadow of the Tomb Raider after hours of playing. Plus my CPU's boost clock now runs up to 4.7-4.8ghz where with the old setup it would max at 4.5g. Extremely happy with Thermalright.

★★★★★Seriously one of best air coolers not even factoring in how cheap they are
These air coolers are legit dang. I like this version because it provides a higher clearance for the RAM vs a SE but result differences are negligible. If you don't need the ram height just get the cheapest at the time. No throttling on a couple power hungry 11700k's running folding at home power limits 250/250 4.6 all core about 75-85 degrees. I see other reviews it cools anywhere from 220-280 watts but YMMV. Above 4.6 and over 250 watts i get some throttling but even liquid coolers can at that power consumption.
