Card is a solid performer among 5080 variants. Not much coil whine to speak of, but I found the frequency of the fan whir at the default 30% to be a bit annoying. That said, i’m picky. Great card overall.

The PNY RTX 5080 OC is an absolute sleeper card once you toss out the stock settings and actually tune the silicon with an undervolt and overclock. While it ships as a basic, no-frills model, it clearly has tons of hidden headroom. Dropping the core voltage down 0.975mV while locking the core clock at a flat 3100MHz completely changes the efficiency profile. It bypasses the aggressive voltage-frequency curve that causes these modern cards to pull unnecessary wattage and dump massive heat into the case. Combined with +2000MHz memory clock offset, the expanded bandwidth allows the GPU to sustain those high clocks under heavy 4K loads without hitting power or thermal limits. The fans actually run at a reasonable RPM because the undervolt keeps the hotspot temperatures well within check, usually running around 62c while gaming in a well ventilated case and room temps in the low 70s. Pairing this GPU with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D removes any remaining bottlenecks. The massive 3D V-Cache on the 9800X3D keeps the frame render queue entirely full, resulting in a perfectly flat frametime graph with practically nonexistent micro-stutters. Even in simulation-heavy titles or unoptimized open-world engines that normally choke a CPU, the 1% lows remain incredibly high. Whether you are running native path tracing or pushing a high-refresh-rate panel, this hardware combination handles everything effortlessly. The only negative is the current pricing environment of PC parts, all things considered though, I would buy this GPU again.

GPU performed great. I ended up returning it for a 5090. I removed a star simply because GPU prices right now are insane for pretty much anything RTX 5070 ti and above. This particular card is one of the "cheaper" RTX 5080s available (closer to the $1,000 MSRP) and overall it performed great. It was very quiet and ran very cool while gaming. I would recommend for anyone looking for a solid GPU that isn't quite as expensive as a 5090 and is a better priced 5080 option. The performance difference between different 5080 models seems pretty marginal so I considered that when looking at the price of 5080s.
