Time spent with item: 48 hours Note: I am an audio visual producer of more than ten years, so I have extensive experience with audio equipment of all kinds. I have, also, instrumental experience of over twenty years. Disclaimer: I used this clamping boom stand with the 512 Audio Skylight Studio Condenser mic using the included threaded adapter. It is the heaviest microphone I have on hand in my home. I have another clamping boom stand as well and a fixed boom stand, in addition. Pros: * it seemed to hold where I put it without drooping under the mics weight * it is SMALL. The unit measures about a foot long per arm so about two feet total. * it seemed fairly sturdy for the price * it didn’t make too much noise when adjusting, I am using a shock mount though * it gave me as much range of motion (adjustability) as my $80 clamping boom mic stand. * can be used with any style of mic under the weight limit, including dynamic XLR microphones. The adapter is in an industry standard size. Cons: * when closing it up to get some space back the knob of the arm adjustment screw rubbed against the springs which made it rather concerning to fully collapse the unit [-1 star] * the knurled adapter has thin metal where it connects to the mic mount. This made it extremely difficult to unscrew the shock mount. I had to ultimately use a chamois to grip it, very nearly had to add pliers, additionally. Don’t like that in a piece of studio equipment, even at this price point. [-1 star] * the mounting clamp only has surface protecting material on the upper side, the static part that touches the top of your desk. The metal screw clamp is just bare metal. I can see it causing some damage if tightened down on the wrong surface. I should deduct an additional star but I won’t, mainly due to the price point. What I liked: * the size of the unit. It is perfect for travel, you could definitely fit it into a suitcase for carry on. * the price. $10 is a fair price but is still a definite selling point for this item What I didn’t like: * having to fight to get my mic mount off the unit. Gave me a miniature heart attack because I thought it would be mated with the stand forever.

Worked like a charm. Only in 2 pieces and was very easy to put together. Mic screwed on very easily and is pretty solid.
