★★★★★One Terrific Mic!
The RØDE X XDM-100 is a terrific microphone. Paired with the PSA1+ swing arm, this professional USB dynamic microphone delivers everything it promises and more, making it an essential upgrade for your setup. It has a heavy and solid feel. Firstly, the audio quality is exceptional. The super-cardioid pattern effectively minimizes background noise while focusing on the voice, delivering crystal-clear, detailed audio capture. I am ramping up to do podcasts and look to streaming late at night or during the day in a sometimes noisy environment, and the XDM-100 ensures that my voice is always front and center, thanks to its superior room noise rejection capabilities. Including the UNIFY virtual mixing solution as a free add-on is a massive plus. This software allows for complete control over sound sources—including microphone, game, chat, and system audio (I'm still learning)—all within a user-friendly interface. It's incredibly powerful, and mixing everything live without needing additional hardware or software is a significant advantage for any streamer or gamer. As a noob, I have found it to be very simple to learn and tweak. It was not received well when it was first introduced, but Røde went to work and fixed the issues. The microphone comes with a high-quality shock mount, which does an excellent job of isolating it from vibrations and incidental noises that can disrupt recordings. Additionally, the provided pop shield is very effective at reducing plosives, ensuring that your speech remains clear and professional-sounding. Before buying, I watched and listened to plenty of YouTube vids about it and then compared my recorded voice to theirs. Thanks to its plug-and-play USB connectivity, setup is straightforward. Including a headphone output is a thoughtful touch, allowing for real-time audio monitoring without any perceptible delay. Lastly, the XDM-100's design is sleek and robust, fitting perfectly into any gaming or streaming setup without feeling out of place. Overall, the RØDE X XDM-100 offers incredible value for its price. It’s a professional-grade microphone that provides excellent sound quality, ease of use, and the flexibility of a full mixing solution. This microphone is a must-have for any content creator looking to produce professional-quality audio in their streams or recordings. I recommend this microphone for anyone professional or new to recording.

★★★★★My favorite microphone by far
I recently purchased this microphone and immediately loved it. I have owned a few USB microphones (HyperX Quadcast and Duocast, Shure MV7) but this mic is my favorite hands down Here is a breakdown of my experience. Packaging - This is premium packaging! The material, presentation and quality are top notch! Build Quality - This mic is a tank and it is build like it. Everything from the shock mount to the pop filter are exceptionally well made. The mic, however, is the star of the show. It's just next level build quality. Setup - Its very plug and play. However, using the Rode Unify software just improves the overall experience. Sound Quality - I mainly use my mic for gaming and streaming and for this purpose this mic delivers like no other. Clear, natural, crisp sound. In combination with the Unify software it is in my opion the best mic in the price range by a mile! Conclusion - If you are on the fence about this mic I assure you its worth the price. You will not be disappointed!

★★★★★Excellent voice reproduction
Sound quality is great! I use this for my weekly radio show, The Money Professor, and it is easy to set up and use.

★★★★★Good mic, crap software
Figured this would be an upgrade to a nearly 10 year old Blue Yeti. This mic looks sexy, seems solidly built, and sounds pretty decent. I was hoping for a little more for $250 though. I'd expect the software to carry a lot of the weight here...and no. It' difficult to get working correctly and screws up constantly and gives sound glitches between both my PC and laptop. Unify looks slick and is modeled after the Rodecaster which gave me high hopes, but it's junk. Either go with an XLR Rode, or one of the other great USB mic options of you want an all in one like Yeti or Elgato. Reduced from 3 to 1 star because I tried giving it a shot without the Unify software, and it's still very glitchy and constantly conflicts with my Realtek sound drivers (one of the most common ones there is), "breaking" them and requiring a restart to reset.

★★★★★Great new microphone, Needed software needs work
The XDM-100 package includes, the XDM-100 Microphone, a Shock Mount, a nice quality USB C to USB C cable, a nice quality headphone extension cable, and a decently made Pop Filter. All the equipment seems well built. It has a substantial, quality feel to it. The microphone itself is pretty heavy. So you’ll need a good quality stand or boom to handle the weight. The microphone is truly “Plug and Play”. Just plug it into your computer, tablet or phone, and you’re immediately able to improve on whatever built in mic you might have on most pieces of equipment. It is attractive to look at, and has a professional quality look and feel. There are a few things I think they could have done better with the design. These are actually fairly nit-picky, but I think they would be an improvement of an already pretty good mic. The decision to place the USB port on the bottom of the mic seems a little clunky. If you are using a boom arm (as I would guess most users will), it causes a rather hard U-turn for the cable if you are trying to follow the arm for cable management. Placement on the “back” of the mic, or even just a “right angle” end on the cable (or an adapter) would have been nice. I addressed the issue with a right angle adapter on mine. It was only a few bucks on Amazon. I even got it in red to match the red accents on the mic. There is a headphone jack on what they have designated the “front” of the mic, just below the volume/mute knob. Again, in my opinion, placement could have been better. It would have been nice to see both the headphone and USB jacks on the back of the mic together to accommodate better cable routing. I remedied the situation by rolling the mic over so that the jack faces the route of the headphone cable. This isn’t a problem since the capsule is in the end of the mic and not the side. If you are going to be using headphones to monitor your feed, it is advisable to use the headphone jack on the mic to do that. Otherwise, there is a definite latency that I know really messes with my speech. The volume/Mute knob is just above the headphone jack and allows for adjustment of the output of the headphone jack. It is also a button that when pushed, toggles the mic between mute/open. One note… when using the mute button with the Unify Software, it mutes the output of the mic completely as you would expect. Without the software, it only mutes the headphone jack and the microphone is still open, outputting to wherever you have it connected. It would be nice if mute was mute all the time. The final piece of nomenclature on the mic is an LED indicator on the back of the mic that glows blue when the mic is open and red when it is muted. If connected without the Unify software, it is blue when open and off when muted. The provided pop filter covers this LED when installed, but does have a window of sorts that allows you to see the LED. It works OK. Because I flipped my mic so the headphone jack is facing up for better cable routing, it puts the led on the bottom which makes it hard to see while actually speaking into the mic. Not a big deal, but it would be nice to see what state the mic is in (mute/open) on the top. It’s a good sounding mic that is easy to use. It’s solidly built with decent specs and is, hopefully, the beginning of good things to come under the New RODE X line. While the microphone and accessories are pretty nice, and they work OK on their own, they’re only half of the Rode X equation. The second part of this system is the Rode X Unify virtual mixer software which I’ve already mentioned. This software is a free download when you own a Rode X - Microphone (XDM-100 or XCM-50). It is built to work in concert with the new Rode X line of equipment. It’s my understanding that it will also recognize other USB microphones in the Rode line. It’s designed to be an all in one mixing platform for your streaming or recording. It has the ability to record in a single stereo track or multi-track for added flexibility in editing. I have heard it called a digital version of the Rodecaster Pro. That might be a bit of exaggeration, but it definitely adds to the usefulness of the mic. Using Unify, you can set up sub mixes that allow you to feed a mix to OBS, your Twitch stream, another to your chat, maybe one to a Facebook or Youtube live feed, and another to your Discord channel. Beyond the mix and sub mix capabilities, Unify is where you can tailor the sound of your RODE X Mics. via the internal DSP in the mic. This takes some of the load off the processor on your computer. You really need this software to unlock the full potential of this microphone. If you click the icon of your mic in the Unify mixer, you will be taken to a settings page where you have the choice of implementing High Pass Filters, Noise Gate, Compressor, Aural Exciter, and “Big Bottom” controls. These features aren’t bad in their default settings, but, if you go into the “Advanced” controls, you can set the parameters for each individually. While the default settings sound pretty good, you may want to use these settings to more accurately tailor the mic to your individual voice. I found the mic a little heavy on the low end for my voice and tweaked it a little to add a little more mid-upper end to help it cut through the mix a little better. The ability to route all your audio sources through virtual channels on the mixer gives you a lot of control over your output. Especially when outputting to multiple feeds. I was able to set up the mic and software pretty quickly and the mic itself is literally plug and play. However, when it came to routing my outputs and inputs, it got a bit more complicated. It took a lot of rooting around on the internet and watching several Rode provided videos before it started to make sense. I consider myself fairly tech savvy and reasonably intelligent. This software tested my definition of both. There have been occasions when software did not want to recognize the mic. It seemed to happen most often when waking the computer or opening the software if it has been shut down. This was usually remedied by restarting the software, unplugging and re-plugging the microphone or sometimes restarting the computer, but it shouldn’t have to be done in my opinion. The software basically makes you go through the Windows audio interface for routing your sources, which is very clunky and sometimes trying. They provide a button as a shortcut to it, but it is just the windows “volume mixer” in the end. It provides a sound pad channel that is preloaded with 8 sound effects. There are an additional 7 pages of 8 virtual pads that are programmable providing up to 56 additional sound effects. Once you do get it figured out, it is fairly intuitive from there. My biggest complaint about this setup is the complete lack of any user manual and support resources. There just isn’t much information available on the web yet either. It does appear that they have been able to make some fixes to the software in updates since some of the early reviews, but I think they still have work to do. There is no built in help file or a product forum to go to to get questions answered. Another big downside to UNIFY is, currently, it is only available for Windows. Rode X says there is a Mac version in the works. No ETA My overall impression: I like the microphone. I think it is well built and performs well. I am not satisfied with the software at this point. While it is working OK since I got things figured out, It is not an elegant interface by any stretch of the imagination. It basically takes over the control of all your audio on your computer and must be running to get any sound unless you go back and re-route your audio. The lack of documentation and resources is a big issue. To get the most out of this mic, you are pretty much married to the software to make use of the onboard DSP. For that reason, I can’t give this more than 4 stars. While I am pleased with the microphone itself in both build quality and aesthetics, the glitchiness of the software, the lack of support documentation or resources, and the dependance on the use of that software to get full functionality out of the mic, leaves me disappointed. Hopefully, future updates to the software and the addition of resources like help files, FAQ and a forum by Rode X will address these issues.
