★★★★★Great B850, don’t bother on the B650!
This motherboard by MSI in my opinion is a fantastic budget board making it a better purchase than the B650 which has been discontinued. The build quality in the motherboard is solid, nothing feels flimsy, the heatsinks are solid metal, the IO Shield is solid, it fit in my case great! The motherboard is compatible from boot with most AM5 sockets, especially the 7800/9800X3D, I had no issues on the first boot. A wonderful feature msi has implemented on this board is the button near the solid heatsink that unlatches the GPU when pushed. This makes maintenance and upgrading on this motherboard stupid easy. Everything is simple and not overcomplicated. The looks are iffy, the tomahawk design could have been there, but the green just ruins it for me, I wish MSI went with a different color because the green they use is what really makes my build off putting. The USB ports on this motherboard are fantastic, I can plug all devices I need into the rear with fast transfer speeds from each. Overall, this motherboard is fantastic, if this is on sale this is a DEFINITE purchase for me!

★★★★★Great motherboard
MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk MAX WiFi – fixed a problem that ruined my entire PC experience I replaced my previous motherboard after months of unexplained performance issues, and this board immediately proved the motherboard can be the root cause of everything. On first boot, my GPU finally negotiated full PCIe x16 at Gen 4 speeds (confirmed in CPU-Z), something my old board never did correctly. Drives were detected instantly, Windows booted without a reinstall, and system stability was night-and-day better right away. This board has rock-solid power delivery, excellent thermals, and a clean, easy-to-navigate BIOS. No weird lane behavior, no throttling, no instability — it just works exactly how a high-end AM5 motherboard should. Games that previously felt “off” suddenly run perfectly smooth, and performance now matches the hardware I paid for. It honestly feels like I unlocked performance that was being held back since day one. Build quality is excellent, layout is smart, Wi-Fi has been solid, and it feels like a motherboard designed for people who actually care about stability and longevity. Bottom line: This board restored my confidence in my entire PC. If you’re dealing with strange performance issues or want a rock-solid foundation for an AM5 build, the B850 Tomahawk MAX WiFi is absolutely worth it.

★★★★★Arch Linux runs smoothly.
Well made, easy to setup, and the web site offers full manuals for download. Supported my Ryzen 9900 12 core cpu out of the box with no firmware update hassles. When I did update the firmware it was straight forward. The B850 chipset is power hungry and there are two 8-pin connectors for the CPU power and a separate 8-pin connector for the PCE-E power. Not all B850 mobos offer that configuration. I am running with an MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5 power supply. The M.2 slot is populated with a PCIe 5.0x4 NVMe and it is very fast. Linux support for the B850 chipset is a work in progress but Arch Linux runs smoothly for me.

★★★★★Quality I can Trust
Just a little backstory, I used my previous motherboard MSI Z97-G45 with a i7-4790k cpu for about 11 years. It served me well but that CPU near its end of lifecycle (Win 10 support no more Oct 2025) and gaming performance not adequate for my needs. Fast Forward to 2025, I got the Ryzen 9800x3d, 32GB DDR5 RAM CL30, this motherboard, and Corsair Nautilus 240 RS liquid cooler. I'm reusing my RTX 3070 GPU, c70 pc case, corsair 650w PSU, couple of HDDs, and 1 SATA 2.5 SSD to cut down cost. What attracted me to this board was the cpu worked right out of the box. No bios flashing was required. One less headache to deal with and the quicker I can set up my computer. Gaming performance is fantastic, it knocks my socks off. I'm able to get 100-300 fps on 1440p with DLSS on my ASUS XG27ACDNG 1440 Oled monitor depending on the game. One thing I really liked about this board was the EZ button for the GPU slot. No longer I had to get my hands in an awkward tight position to remove my GPU. All you have to do now is press that button and it comes out. Simplicity at its best! Just a fair warning that there is no paper booklet / manual inside the box. I had to look it up online on my phone to read the manual. It's not a big deal, it's probably standard to go paperless this day and age. Also this motherboard is only for Windows 11. Since I reused my old C70 vengeance case, I didn't have front USB 3.0 or USB Type-C headers to use these ports. Doesn't bother me since USB 2.0 suits me just fine. Buy a new pc case if you want to use these functions. It also comes with a Wifi 7 antenna since I'm an oldie using a wifi5 router, it wouldn't enhance my speed. There are also RGB leds on the board if you want to make your pc look nice. So far my pc runs like a dream. Pc boots up in around 1-2 mins with a sata ssd. There are m.2 slots and it looks relatively easy to install nvme drives. One wierd thing I noticed when I have 2 monitors plugged in with display ports connectivity, during boot process, it will go to my 2nd monitor, then go back to my 1st monitor. Just nitpicking, not a big deal. I'm still completely satisfied with this motherboard even though I'm an oldie whom doesn't use all the newest features. Thanks MSI!

★★★★★NO WINDOWS 10 COMPATIBILITY
This is a nightmare. You guys need to show better that the motherboard DOES NOT WORK WITH WINDOWS 10 AT ALL. I had to update to W11 after swapping my SSD back over to my old board. Now I have a red CPU light and yellow DRAM light. I’ve spent hours trying to just upgrade my computer, and it all started with this board and it’s apparent lack of support for an operating system that is still in use.
