Smooth Installation and Flawless Performance I picked up the Plextor PX-891SAF DVD writer to replace an older drive, and it’s been nothing but reliable. Installation was straightforward—just plug into a SATA port, secure it in the bay, and the system recognized it instantly without hunting for extra drivers. That’s always a relief. Performance has been excellent. It burns discs quickly and quietly, and playback of both DVDs and CDs has been smooth with no skips or hiccups. I especially appreciate the dual-layer capability, which is great for larger projects. Compared to some cheaper generic drives I’ve used in the past, this Plextor feels more solidly built, with a smooth tray action that doesn’t feel flimsy. One thing to note: this is a bulk/OEM drive, so it comes without cables, software, or fancy packaging. Not an issue for me since I had spares, but worth keeping in mind if you’re expecting a full retail kit. Was packaged very well, arrived in perfect shape. The drive uses the standard SATA connections, just as easy to install as any other 5.25" device. Came with some software (ImgBurn, CDBurnerXP, & PlexTools) & 5 DVD-Rs, haven't needed to use either yet but they seem fine. I'm not expecting the DVD-Rs to be of the highest quality, but they're a nice bonus and should do the job well enough. If you're planning to put this in your personal computer, definitely spring for the retail version; it's worth the extra few bucks.

This isn't quite the same Plextor drive that used to be the industry leader, but it is worth the very low current price. It will perform better than whatever OEM drive you're replacing. I'm on my third of this particular model and the failure point is the eject mechanism on the CD tray. Eventually, it will stop ejecting on the first attempt. If this could be fixed I would give it 5 stars.
