Seagate 6TB IronWolf NAS SATA 6Gb/s NCQ 128MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Hard Drive (ST6000VN0041)

Upgraded from a 2-disk RAID 1 to a 4-disk RAID 5, 6TB to 15.6TB! I'll most likely die before I use up all that space! Disks arrived properly shock-insulated in a vacuum static-proof bag. Worked like a champ! Highly recommend! UPDATE: A few weeks ago, the disks began throwing warnings, 1 about bad blocks, the other Read errors. Neither catastrophic: They continued working until this seller graciously honored Segate's 1-Year warranty and sent 2 replacements! They are Installed, RAID 5 restored and working fine, all green. Continues in the "Highly Recommend" category!

I bought 2 of these for my new NAS, and so far I've been very happy with them. They run quietly and not too hot either. The first 2 I got are working so well that I bought 2 more to fully populate my 4-bay NAS. No problems with them whatsoever, and after working them hard during the initial installation and copying over a bunch of data, there are no signs of early failure. The sale price is pretty good too, $40ish off the usual price and cheaper than the other brand's Red drives.

Seagate all they way. I've yet to have any issues with any Seagate's. The ones that came in my computers and these that I've been filling up my NAS with. This makes my 4th Seagate NAS drive. 2- 4TB and 2- 6TB. All going well.They aren't quiet, but I doubt any NAS drive is truly designed to be quiet. I just put it in a room that I'm never in. My only grip. Price dropped $20 while mine was in route to me. I've had a few portable HDs go out on me. I tore them apart to see what brand failed. None were Seagate's....

Great drive, but not sure why it was so painfully difficult to add to my disc array system. I had to truly force (yes, you read that correctly) and I do mean force, that drive into an empty bay in my array. Once it was jammed in, it's been a perfect performer.

I have used several Seagate desktop HDDs over the years and they have been good for me, one of them lasting for nearly 8 years with normal usage. The others lasted about 5-6 years. I was sceptical in buying this at first, since failure rates for Seagate seem to be pretty high. But with my past experiences, This seemed like a good HDD to pair with my existing HGST Deskstar NAS 6TB (bought a month before this) in RAID 1. It will be interesting to see which one is going to fail first. The read write speeds seem pretty similar to that of my HGST drive. I have set it up again in a RAID 5 array in Ubuntu Server OS. I will be adding another 6TB HDD later this year to complete the RAID 5 setup.
