Fantastic little bit of kit for adding more mainstream sized SSDs to your beloved Steam Deck. Be aware however that using this kit will facilitate the need for either modifying the stock backplate or buying an aftermarket backplate with a little bit more room in the caboose for your bigger hard drive. The kit comes with a couple of nice to haves such as the M.2 screw, a tiny screwdriver, some adhesives, and even a thermal pad strip for the SSD, (as dinky as it is). Decent value for the money.

this adapter works for my LCD steamdeck just fine. install was easy enough with plenty of instructions out there. after a month or use, no difference than oem if youre using a decent gen4 nvme. i went from a 256GB to a 1tb samsung and its been great. note: there will be no room for a heatsink so take that into consideration when choosing drives.

This is definitely a solid option for adding a longer M.2 drive to the Steam Deck, but there are a couple of things worth pointing out before you dive in. The adapter itself works as advertised, but if you’re planning to use a larger M.2 drive, especially one with chips on both sides, you may run into some fitment issues. I upgraded my Steam Deck to a 1 TB drive a few years ago and wanted to bump it up to 2 TB using this adapter. Technically it fits, but the thickness of the double‑sided drive makes the installation tighter than I’m comfortable with. For a standard single‑sided 1 TB drive, though, this adapter would be perfect. Another thing to keep in mind is the color. Normally this wouldn’t matter since the part sits under the Steam Deck’s back shell, but I’m using a transparent case. The bright green PCB stands out quite a bit and doesn’t blend well with the rest of the internals. This isn’t a flaw with the product, just something to be aware of if you care about aesthetics. Overall, it’s a good adapter that does what it’s supposed to. Just make sure your drive isn’t too thick for the space, and consider whether the color will clash with your setup if you’re using a clear case.

This is a well-built converter and feels like a solid piece of hardware. The materials feel sturdy, the fit is flexible enough, and it looks like it should hold up well to regular use. Installation is straightforward and the design makes it easy to swap or install a drive when you’re ready. Right now the only reason I haven’t fully put it into service is SSD pricing. At the moment, smaller SSDs are sometimes the same price per GB—or even cheaper—than larger ones, which makes upgrading less appealing. Because of that, I’m planning to stash this enclosure away until prices stabilize and larger drives make more sense again. Overall, the enclosure itself seems high quality and ready to go.
