Was the best 2TB value at the time (cheaper than 3.0 drives). I don't regret buying it - it performs well as a system drive, can be put in older computers as well as new ones, and stays cool even when doing lots of reading (what I use it for - searching in large pdf library). About ten times faster than the drive it replaced - an external 2.5" hard drive. Still reads as 99% healthy a year in.

★★★★★Almost new SDD at half price is a good deal
I would not normally buy a almost new SSD, but this 4TB PNY SSD was being sold by Amazon. I was a little worried about security. PNY does not have software to secure erase or update firmware. The drive appeared to be already sanitized, but I wanted to be sure. A used drive should be secure erased both before selling and using. I booted from a USB with MINT and used Linux to sanitize. The drive supports a block level sanitize and it completed quickly.
Perhaps the firmware is really so good that it is never updated. (It might happen.) I did want to refresh or update the firmware just in case it was tampered with, but this is not an option. The lack of PNY firmware support is why the 4 star instead of a 5 star.
Runs "cool" for a M.2 SSD. Performs as expected on benchmarks. SMART shows typical wear for a few months read and write. The values were consistent so tampering is not likely. The power on time was only 2 hours. After using it a few days it's now at 3 hours. (This is controller active time, not the time power is supplied. It will never reach 65000 hours on my old SAMSUNG drive were the same SMART counter is the power supply time. Standards are nice, but it helps to know which one to use.)
So far I'm happy with the purchase.
