★★★★★Save Your Money & Buy the 1000MB/s Version | Wedding Photographer's RAW Perspective 📸
This is my second SANDISK extreme SSD hard drive that I've ordered in the last year or so. I'm a wedding photographer who is regularly transferring, copying, and storing RAW files which if you know anything about photography... are quite large files! I did a test and copied over 1,200 something RAW files from a Sandisk SSD that I ordered last year, to this new Sandisk hard drive. My *old* drive's speeds are up to 1000MB/s. This new version has a max speed of up to 2000MB/s. Key word being there of "UP TO". I've added a photo of the average speed that I was getting on this drive while copying the RAW files. The speed is actually just about the same as the speed on my 1000MB/s drive. I asked Gemini if this is normal, and it explained what I was seeing. I've shared the information that I learned below. 👉 "Yes, 339 MB/s is a perfectly normal and reasonable speed for copying a large number of RAW files between two external SSDs. While the drives themselves may have high "advertised" maximum speeds (like 1,000 MB/s or 2,000 MB/s), you will almost never see those speeds in real-world file transfers." 👉 "Why your speed is lower than the "max" rating: The "Many Small Files" Factor: Your image indicates you are moving 1,286 items. Moving a large collection of individual files is significantly slower than moving a single massive file (like a movie). For every single file, Windows has to open the file, read the metadata, create the entry on the destination drive, write the data, and close the file. This constant "overhead" dramatically slows down the transfer process compared to peak sequential speeds." 👉 "You aren't seeing 1,000 or 2,000 MB/s because those numbers are "best-case scenario" benchmarks for single, massive files under perfect conditions. Moving 1,286 individual RAW files involves significantly more overhead, making 339 MB/s a very healthy, expected result." My final thoughts are that this drive is small and compact (even more so than the 1000MB/s drive that I purchased last year!), it's easy to use... literally just plug in and start using(!), the brand is decent and reliable (I almost exclusively purchase sandisk hard drives and SD Cards) and the "up to 2,000MB/s" is impressive! HOWEVER, if you're also a person who regularly handles THOUSANDS of large RAW files at a time, for the current cost of this drive... I would skip it, and go with Sandisk's 1000MB/s drive with more space. IMO that is currently more bang for my buck as I seem to consistently running the same copy/transfer speeds on both SSD's. YES, I'd recommend this drive; as long as you're not dealing with a ba-jillon large files at a time. In that instance, go with a cheaper *lower* speed sandisk SSD with more space.

★★★★Great Fast Drive, as of early 2026 its way overpriced
This is a very fast external usb drive that makes it easy to copy and transfer files between systems. It can be used for backups, it just shouldn't be used for long term backups as all SSD suffer from bit rot if they are left unpowered on a shelf and not used. Size is great as its easy to stuff in a laptop bag. I really wish they had a better option for the USB C cable. Either having it integrated, or have some kind of built in storage for the cable. As you don't want it in your laptop with cable attached, as you could damage the connector. I used some adhesive hook/loop tape to make a hook/loop strap so can strap the cable to the device. At this price point (early 2026) the SSD/Storage market is insane and with the price you are paying for this, there should be better management for the usb cable. I think the device works great so far, can't say much about logevity as that will only come with time. Will update review later down the road if issues. If this drive is running slow for you, its your PC. Not all USB C ports are made equal, you really need a high speed usb c port to get full speed. Some USB C ports are really just USB 3.0 under the hood.

★★★★★Absolutely blazing fast and built like a tank!
I’ve been using the SanDisk 1TB Extreme Portable SSD for a few weeks now, and it has completely transformed my workflow. If you are a creator or just someone who handles large files, this is a must-have. What I Love: Insane Speed: The 2000MB/s transfer speed is no joke. I can move massive 4K video projects and hundreds of high-res photos in seconds. It’s nearly twice as fast as my older drives, which saves me a ton of time. Rugged Durability: I’m often working on the go, so the IP65 water and dust resistance gives me peace of mind. The silicone shell feels premium and provides a great grip, and knowing it can survive a 3-meter drop is a huge plus for travel. Compact Form Factor: It’s incredibly small and lightweight. It fits easily in a pocket or a small tech pouch without adding any bulk to my bag. Security: The 256-bit AES hardware encryption is a great touch for keeping my client work and private files secure. Final Verdict: This drive is the perfect balance of performance and protection. Whether you're backing up AI-generated content or offloading camera cards in the field, it handles everything without breaking a sweat. It is well worth the investment for the speed alone! Bottom Line: Highly recommended for professionals and power users who need reliable, high-speed storage.

★★★★★Makes Adding Storage Easy!
SSD prices have hit an all time high because of the increased usage/reliance on AI and most company’s inability to meet demand. I wanted to add some additional storage space/headroom to my portable gaming system and this little SSD device fit my needs. As you can tell by the product listing and my pictures the SSD is very small but it has a rugged exterior to withstand travel. Add your media to the device and throw it in a purse or bag and you are good to go as the SSD comes with an included USB-C cable (which is super short). The read speeds are sufficient for loading small Indie titles and Double-A games with little impact on performance as well as music and videos. Pricing structure is a little hard to contextualize because the prices have had a significant increase over the last few months but it is in-line with current offerings. My biggest concern is the longevity of the SSD. Even though my usage is split between internal and external storage, I wonder how the SSD will last if it is being used most exclusively (will update after further usage). Going to go with a five-star rating because of ease of use, connectivity, and form factor. Will update the review based on longevity.
