★★★★★Nice replacement drive
I got this to install into an external optical drive USB enclosure in which the drive had failed. This fit perfectly and works well. I mainly use it for reading discs, not writing them. Seems to have no issues reading anything I've put into it (except of course Blu-Rays, which it is not designed to handle). Nice unit from a recognized OEM provider brand.

★★★★★Pretty good burner, until the problems started
As one who burns quite a few DVDs and CDs I often find myself going through burners fairly quickly. Usually, in my experience the optics will begin to not burn properly on a double layer DVD. In descending order of frequency: Other burners will suffer a gremlin in the drawer mechanism which will not allow it to function properly. And fewer drives develop some type of electronic gremlin which will not allow the drive to recognize either a good disc or a blank disc and render it useless for anything other than a paperweight. In the past Plextor drives were the standard which other drives aspired to in terms of their construction, quality standards and quality of the finished discs. Sadly they were bought out and are now a shell of their former self. The last Plextor I bought was DOA. I'm willing to pay a little more to get something that lasts and this drive fits the bill. LEDs tend to suffer when they get too hot and the additional heatsink may well allow the element to last for a longer period of time. My first burn was a double layer disc which it performed flawlessly. Additionally the mechanism works well and seems like it MAY be durable. I will update if it fails prematurely. 5/29/23- Both burners I purchased in 2021 have stopped burning dual layer discs, and sometimes even single layer discs. One was used frequently and one less frequently. I have downgraded the rating from five to three stars. In my experience this is about the usual length of time most burners have lasted for me. I'm a little disappointed that neither drive lasted longer. Additionally, the least used burner developed a weird electronic problem that caused the computer running Win 10 to crash. I was not aware of this and replaced the hard drive and reinstalled windows. But the problem remained until I replaced the burner, which seemed to have solved the problem. No more crashes. That's the FIRST time I've had a burner cause this problem.

★★★★★Works great
Needed to replace a Plextor burner that was acting up after only a year and this works great. Hope this is more reliable.
